Hot taps create new outlets off of existing pipes or vessels. For example, a hot tap would be used if municipality must add a fire hydrant, but does not want to disrupt service in the area for it to be cut in.
Line stops could be thought of as plugs installed directly into live pipelines, and allow for points to be controlled. Below, two line stops allow for a new valve and outlet to be installed into a section of transmission main.
Valve insertions are in-line valves installed without disrupting flow. These are ideal for gaining control over a system if there is a water main break, and are well suited to be installed in systems where a shutdown must be avoided.
