Materials Selection

  • Line Stop Fitting: CS High Performance Pipeline Products, a Canadian-made NSF 61 thermoplastic coated linestop fitting.

  • Bypass Tapping Sleeve: Romac FTS420 "Romacoat" NSF 61 fusion bonded-epoxy coated A-36 carbon steel.

  • Bypass Tapping Valve: Clow F6102 resilient wedge gate valve conforming to AWWA C509.

  • 304 Stainless steel fasteners used throughout.

Key Points

  • These line stops allowed for a 750mm valve and a 750mm outlet to be cut in to the transmission main without disrupting service.

  • A 300mm temporary bypass pipe, which had been hot tapped in, was run around the work area to maintain service.

  • All fittings were pressure tested once installed on the pipe to a leak free installation.

This picture is looking down the cut end of the steel main towards the line stop equipment which is visible in the centre of the pipe. The main is pressurized and in service behind the line stop equipment.

Both line stop machines are in place. A 50mm hot tap is performed between the two line stops to verify an effective shut down prior to conducting work on the pipe.

Once the line stop is no longer required and repairs or installations are finished, line stop equipment is removed and the
outlet of the fitting is protected with a blind flange.
